RC DIFFERENTIATOR |
COMPONENTS
- RESISTOR (R1) - 1K
- CAPACITOR(C1) - .1μF
A circuit which gives an output voltage propotional to derivative of it's input is known as differentiating circuit.
When a square wave is applied at the input, during the positive half cycle capacitor charges so, initially the voltage across the resistor will be the applied voltage. As the capacitor charges the voltage across resistor decreases. During negative half cycle the capacitor starts to discharge and come to zero.At low frequencies the capacitor C1 offers considerable reactance and hence blocks them, but at higher frequencies it offers less reactance and allows them to pass through it hencce the circuit is also called "High pass filter".
The necessery condition to be fulfilled for an RC Differentiator circuits are :-
- The time constant RC of the circuit should be much smaller than the time period of the input , RC<<T.
- The value of capacitive reactance should not be smaller than 10 times of R.
